Vierville-sur-Mer / Omaha Beach
That night, several of us did a night patrol in to the field next to us. Under a star and moon lit night, we moved in patrol formation through the harvested field, periodically stopping and lowering our silohuette as if our pointman saw something. There was a thunderstorm in the distance and the whole situation was eerie. Being a medic, I stood at the rear and watched the shadowy figures of the infantrymen ahead of me. Very surreal. We reached a bunker that was found earlier that day. The outside was overgrown with foliage, and the entrance was a bit caved in. But the bunker itself was intact and accessible. This is the front of the German bunker. That's Mike Beth in the window pointing out the bullet pock marks.
