Associated Films kicks off the first week of August with a entry for Scavengerfest©, the Los Angeles-based 24 hour film festival.
Four of Five
Associated Films starts off the production year with a 5 minute entry to Scavengerfest 5©. The piece was filmed and edited within 24 hours from assignment and followed the three parameters in accordance with the rules of the festival. Associated Films has long been a contender in the event which began in 2003.
Scavengerfilms© challenges its participants to come up with film entries, not exceeding 5 minutes, that have been shot and edited within 24-hours from assignment. To make things extra tricky, the folks at Scavengerfilms adds several "parameters" that the film crews must oblige by. In the past, the overseeing committee required films to contain a variety of random props, dialogue, or specific locations. For their 2nd venue, they even required the entries to end in cliffhangers!
This year, the committee mandated that one scene had to take place at a drive-thru speaker, 5 seconds of someone playing patty-cake, and a made-up foreign word. The assignment was given at 7pm on Friday evening and all the crews set out to begin filming.
Associated Films began actual filming at about 10pm. They began in studio at the Associated Films House, located in Fullerton, California. From there, they began filming at several local spots in the studio area. Filming wrapped roughly 4am.
The event was held at the M Bar in Hollywood. The bar captured the vibe of independent filming. Tucked away in a stripmall off of Vine street, the only indication of the bar is a small white "M" placed on a black canvas awning facing the parking lot. The energy of the bar is concealed by it's inconspicuous, unmarked entrance door. Inside, the crimson interior is illuminated by candles and the lights from the well-stocked bar. Each presentation was introduced individually, the emcee giving notice to the films groups involved.
Associated Films has participated in four out of five Scavengerfests (missing #4 which was held last March). Prior entries were showcased at the 3rd Annual Associated Films Show: Pursuit 0 (although the original cut is shorter and with different music), Amnesia: The Musical, and Ben's Big Stunt. You can expect to see more participation from Associated Films in future festivals!
