A quiet month as Associated Films prepares a new filming year in the aftermath of the tremendous 3rd Show.
A Quiet June
No news from the Orange County based arthouse, Associated Films, for this month of June. Though a planned hiatus was to follow immediately after the May 8th release of the successful 3rd Show, no one had expected to see the film group to remain dormant for so long.
We took to the Associated Lot to see if we could drum up some answers.
"I know we needed a bit of a break," states actor Anthony! Ardisone. "Well, most of the group was. I wasn't. I was ready to shoot and scoot the night of the [3rd] show. With all that momentum, it was hard for me to want to take a break."
But Ardisone also mentioned he couldn't do it alone. Most of the production staff was tired from the rigorous post-production and 3rd Show planning. They needed the break. However, nobody, not even some of the members requesting the time off, expected for the downtime to last this long.
"I'm ready film something. Let's get something going," commented James Soeffner Wednesday night at local Fullerton pub, Stubrik's. His interest to film appears to be a common emotion among the members of Associated Films. Director Ralph Apel made several statements about wanting to work on a project right away, even if it was a short piece.
Is the creative talent at Associated Films waning? Ardisone doesn't think so.
"It's kind of what I was afraid of about taking a break. When people let the break be part of the routine, it's hard to get back in to things, even if some of the ideas we've got are really good and exciting."
Not everyone is actually on break. Director S Dylan Kirkland is currently working for music artist Jack Maher in an Associated Films conglomerate music video. During an early Sunday morning interview, Kirkland gave us a perspective that despite the seemingly quiet times, there are several things in the works. In addition to the music video for Maher, Kelly Merrell is currently restruction and reworking the musical space odyssey, Space House. This Associated film is a first of its kind for the production company and is anticipated to begin principal shooting at the end of the 2004 summer.
Quiet or not, fans know that Associated Films will deliver. We hope that when they do, it will be sometime soon as the energy from the 3rd Show hasn't dissipated yet!
