Merrell first debuted on the silver screen in the pre-Associated Films movie, the Pimp Connection. He made his mark in Hollywood and formed an integral bond with Anthony Ardisone and Ben Johnson vital to the formation of Associated Films.
When the company formed, Merrell side stepped and worked in New York City as a promotions consultant for the company. Though this disappearance was felt in Associated Films' acting resource, his East Coast field experience was a valuable asset when he returned. Once back in California, he found a part as Dash Cunning in the police action comedy, Horchata's Commandos, on his desk. The rest is history.
For the role as Old Man in the Pursuit, Kelly Merrell was so talented that he used no make up or costuming to achieve the middle-aged look of his character. Aside from his outstanding acting, Merrell also doubles as an Associated Film producer and talent scout. With his experience, we're sure to see some new faces with some fresh talent. There was a rumor spread about Merrell leaving Associated Films to start his own company. When asked about this candidly at Wolfgang Puck's Spagos over a bottle of chianti and bruschetta, Merrell chimed, "Not this time, Blast, not at all." (March 2003).
